How to Compress Image to 20KB for Online Forms

Compress photos to 20KB for Indian job, KYC, and exam form uploads online free. Mobile-friendly, private browser-side steps and troubleshooting.

Government, KYC, and exam portals in India often cap uploads at 20KB (or 50KB). A modern phone photo can be 2–8MB, so the form fails even when the picture looks perfect. Imgician can hit a 20KB target in your browser — nothing is uploaded to our servers for processing.

When you need 20KB

Read the form notification carefully. Some boards use 20KB for photos, 50KB for signatures, or the reverse. Others only mention “JPG below 20KB.” If the PDF says 20KB, use that — forcing a larger file usually fails the validator.

Steps

  1. Open Compress image to 20KB on phone or desktop.
  2. Drop a JPG or PNG. If the file is iPhone HEIC, convert with HEIC to JPG first (one file at a time).
  3. Confirm the target is about 20 KB, then cast the spell and download.
  4. Upload to the portal. If it rejects for size/dimensions, resize first, then compress again (next section).

Strict portals often check width × height and file size. Order matters:

  1. Resize to the required size — e.g. passport / 3.5×4.5 cm, Aadhaar, PAN 3.5×2.5 cm, or 200×230 px.

What 20KB looks like

At ~20KB you’ll usually see softer detail and fewer fine textures. That’s normal. Forms still accept these files when:

  • The face fills most of the frame
  • Lighting is even
  • The background is plain
  • You started from a sharp original

If the result is unreadable (face blob), don’t keep re-compressing the same bad crop — go back to a better original, crop/resize properly, then compress once.

What is Imgician?

Imgician is a free online image toolkit for compressing photos to a target size, resizing dimensions, converting formats like JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, and image to PDF, plus cropping, rotating, flipping, watermarking, removing backgrounds, and making passport print sheets — all without creating an account.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compress, resize, convert, edit (crop / rotate / flip), watermark, background removal, and print-sheet layout all run in your browser on your device. Your images are not uploaded to Imgician’s servers for editing, and we don’t store the files you process.

Can I make a passport photo print sheet?

Yes. Open the Sheet tab (or a passport-photo-sheet tool page), drop one photo, pick size (3.5×4.5 cm, US 2×2 in, stamp, or PAN), page (A4 / 4×6 / Letter), and DPI, then cast the spell. Download a PDF with multiple copies at true print DPI — nothing uploaded.

What DPI does the print sheet use?

Default is 300 DPI (print-shop standard). You can switch to 600 DPI for sharper sheets. Photo cells use exact millimeter or inch sizes so printed copies match the labeled dimensions.

Can I remove an image background?

Yes. Open the Cutout tab (or a remove-background tool page), drop one photo, choose Transparent, White, or a custom fill, then cast the spell. A small AI model (~5 MB) loads once on that page only and runs privately in your browser.

Is background removal private?

Yes. Cutouts run on your device with a U²-Net model. Your photo is not uploaded to Imgician for removal. The optional higher-quality model (~176 MB) also downloads to your browser and is cached locally after the first use.

Why does background removal download a model?

The AI weights must reach your browser once so inference can stay local. The default Fast model is about 5 MB. Better quality is about 176 MB and only downloads if you choose it. Other Imgician tools never load these models.

Can I add a watermark or text stamp to an image?

Yes. Open the Mark tab (or a watermark tool page), drop your photo, choose Text or Logo, set opacity and position (or Tile for a repeating stamp), then cast the spell to download. A live preview shows the stamp before you export.

Can I watermark with a logo?

Yes. In Mark mode, switch to Logo, choose a PNG or JPG mark, set logo size and opacity, place it in a corner or center, then cast the spell. Prefer a transparent PNG for clean brand overlays.

How do I add a tiled or copyright watermark?

In Mark mode, enter your text (for example © Your Name), choose Tile as the position, and optionally enable Diagonal stamp. Tile auto-fits stamp size so the pattern fills the image — tweak Size if you want larger or smaller repeats, then cast the spell.

How do I make a diagonal text stamp?

Open Mark, type your stamp text, check Diagonal stamp, and pick Center, a corner, or Tile. The preview rotates the stamp about −28° so it reads like a classic proof mark.

Can I change watermark opacity and color?

Yes. Use the Opacity slider so the mark protects the photo without hiding the subject. For text stamps, pick a Color that contrasts with the background — white or light gray works well on dark photos.

Can I watermark multiple images at once?

Yes. In Mark mode, drop several photos (or use + Add more), set one text or logo stamp for the batch, cast the spell, and download a ZIP. Up to 40 images per batch. HEIC stays one file at a time.

How do I batch watermark images?

Open Mark (or Batch Image Watermark), drop multiple photos, choose Text or Logo and shared position/opacity, then cast the spell. When processing finishes, use Download ZIP for all stamped files.

Is watermarking private?

Yes. Text and logo watermarks are applied in your browser. Your photo and logo file are not uploaded to Imgician’s servers for stamping.

Can I crop, rotate, or flip an image?

Yes. Open the Edit tab, upload your image, then rotate 90°, flip horizontal/vertical, and drag the crop box (with optional aspect presets). Cast the spell to download the edited file.

How do I crop an image online?

Choose Edit, drop your image, then drag the crop box on the preview. Use the corner handles to resize and drag inside the box to reposition. When the frame looks right, cast the spell and download the cropped image.

What crop aspect ratios are available?

Edit mode includes Free crop plus locked ratios: 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 4:3, 3:2, 2:3, 5:4, 16:9, 9:16, and 21:9 — useful for Instagram, Stories, YouTube thumbnails, profile pictures, and widescreen banners.

How do I crop a square profile picture?

Open Edit (or a square crop tool like Crop Image to Square), select the 1:1 aspect, drag the box over the face or subject, then cast the spell. Use the result for WhatsApp DP, Instagram, or other avatars.

How do I rotate an image 90 degrees?

In Edit, tap Left to rotate counter-clockwise or Right to rotate clockwise. Each tap turns the image 90°. Rotate applies instantly to the preview — then crop if needed and cast the spell to download.

How do I flip or mirror an image?

In Edit, tap Horizontal to mirror left-right, or Vertical to flip top-to-bottom. Flips apply instantly. Cast the spell after you’re happy with the crop (or use the full frame) to download.

Can I crop and rotate in the same step?

Yes. Rotate or flip first (they update the working image immediately), then adjust the crop box, then cast the spell once to download the final edited file.

Why did my edited file get larger?

Cropping can still re-encode the image (especially to JPG), so file size may go up or down depending on content and format. Editing changes pixels and framing — it isn’t a compressor. Use Compress afterward if you need a smaller KB target.

Can I compress, resize, or convert multiple images at once?

Yes — in Compress, Resize, Convert, or Mark (watermark), drop several images (or use + Add more). The same settings apply to every file. Cast the spell and download a ZIP of the results. Edit, Cutout (background removal), and Sheet (print pack) stay single-image only.

How do I batch compress images?

Open Compress, drop multiple photos, set your quality or target KB once, then cast the spell. When processing finishes, download the ZIP. Up to 40 images per batch.

How do I batch resize images?

Open Resize, add several images, set the shared width, height, or percent scale, then cast the spell. Every image uses those dimensions. Download the resized files as a ZIP when you’re done.

How do I convert multiple images to the same format?

Open Convert, drop your images, pick one output format (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, or PDF), cast the spell, then download the ZIP. The chosen format applies to the whole batch.

How do I download batch results?

After casting the spell on multiple images, use Download ZIP. All processed files are packed into one archive so you don’t get dozens of separate downloads.

Is there a limit on how many images I can batch?

Yes — up to 40 images per batch. Very large files may also run slower on older phones, so keep sources reasonable when processing a full queue.

Can I convert HEIC (iPhone) photos to JPG or PNG?

Yes. Drop a single HEIC file into Convert (or open HEIC to JPG / HEIC to PNG). Imgician decodes it in your browser, then exports JPG or PNG. HEIC is not available in batch — one photo at a time.

Why can’t I batch-convert HEIC images?

HEIC decoding is heavier than JPG/PNG. To keep the tool fast and reliable on phones, Imgician handles HEIC one file at a time. Convert each HEIC separately, or export JPG from your iPhone first if you need a large batch.

How do I compress an image to a specific KB size?

Open Compress, drop your image, enter a target size in KB (for example 50 or 100), then cast the spell. Imgician reduces quality and, if needed, dimensions to approach that size while keeping the smaller result.

Will compressing an image reduce quality?

Lossy compression (typical for JPG) can reduce fine detail to hit a smaller file size. Use a higher quality setting for milder shrinks, leave the target blank for quality-based compress, or enable lossless-friendly settings when you want to preserve detail — especially for PNGs.

Why didn’t my image get smaller after compression?

Some images are already well optimized. If re-encoding would make the file larger, Imgician keeps the original and may show “Already optimized.” Try a lower quality, a smaller target KB, or a different format.

How do I resize an image online?

Choose Resize, upload your image, then set width and height in pixels, centimeters, millimeters, inches, or percent. Lock the aspect ratio to keep proportions, then download the resized file.

Can I resize an image by percentage?

Yes. In Resize, set the unit to % and enter a scale value (for example 50 for half size). You’ll see the resulting pixel dimensions before you cast the spell.

What image formats can I convert between?

Imgician supports common conversions among JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and BMP, plus converting an image to a single-page PDF. AVIF export needs a browser that can encode AVIF (Chrome and Safari typically). Pick Convert, choose the output format, and download the result.

How do I convert an image to PDF?
